INDIANA — An Evansville man is facing multiple charges following a domestic disturbance and subsequent altercation with a sheriff’s deputy Saturday night, according to police.

Officers with the Evansville Police Department responded just after 8 p.m. to a home in the 1500 block of West Missouri Avenue after an 11-year-old called 911, reporting that a man had assaulted her and another individual before leaving the scene.

Police later located 43-year-old Christopher Andrew near the intersection of Fountain Avenue and North 7th Street, where authorities say he was actively fighting with a deputy in an alley. According to officials, Andrew refused commands and struck the deputy multiple times in the arms and face, and also bit him.

Investigators said Andrew had been at the residence prior to the incident and became upset during an interaction with his boyfriends. Witnesses told police he slapped the 11-year-old and then struck both men during a confrontation inside the home. Two additional juveniles, ages 5 and 10, were present during the incident.

Andrew was treated for minor injuries at Deaconess Midtown Hospital before being taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail.

He is charged with battery against a public safety official, resisting law enforcement causing bodily injury, battery against a child under 14, domestic battery in the presence of a child under 16, and battery causing serious bodily injury.

The incident remains under investigation.
