
NORTH CAROLINA — An elementary school in eastern North Carolina was briefly placed on lockdown Friday morning after a threat of violence was reported, according to authorities.
Deputies with the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office responded just after 8 a.m. to GW Carver Elementary School in Pinetops to investigate the threat.
During the investigation, no one was allowed into the school as a precaution.
The Pinetops Police Department later said on Facebook that all students and staff members were safe and the school had been secured.
Officials lifted the lockdown shortly after 9 a.m.
Authorities have not released additional details about the nature of the threat or whether any arrests have been made.
