Multiple tornados possible in parts of Texas

TEXAS — Parts of Texas face a tornado threat Tuesday as multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

Forecasters said an enhanced risk of severe weather is in place across portions of the southern Plains, including areas of north and central Texas.

SPC Day 1 Outlook

Meteorologists warn that conditions are favorable for the development of strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, along with very large hail and damaging winds.

The greatest tornado risk is expected to develop during the afternoon and evening hours as storms intensify in a highly unstable atmosphere. Forecasters say multiple supercell thunderstorms could form, increasing the potential for isolated tornadoes.

In addition to the tornado threat, some storms could produce large to giant hail measuring 2 to 4 inches in diameter and wind gusts strong enough to cause widespread damage.

The Storm Prediction Center said storms may initially develop as discrete supercells before evolving into clusters, which could expand the damaging wind threat into the evening.

Residents across Texas are urged to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings and be prepared to take shelter quickly if a tornado warning is issued.

The severe weather threat is expected to continue into the overnight hours as storms move eastward.
