Multiple schools in South Carolina to close next month

SOUTH CAROLINA — Many schools across South Carolina are expected to close or operate on modified schedules for the June 9, 2026, primary election as campuses prepare to serve as polling locations.

School districts throughout the state commonly cancel classes, transition to e-learning or schedule teacher workdays on Election Day to allow voters and election workers access to school facilities while maintaining student safety.

Several districts have already announced plans for closures or alternative instruction on June 9, with additional districts expected to confirm schedules closer to the election.

South Carolina voters will head to the polls June 9 to participate in primary races for local, state and federal offices ahead of the November general election.

Many polling locations in South Carolina are housed inside public schools because they offer large spaces, accessibility and parking accommodations for voters.

Parents and students are encouraged to check with their local school district for specific schedule changes related to the election.
