Multiple schools in New Jersey to close next month

NEW JERSEY — Many schools across New Jersey are expected to close or operate on modified schedules for the June 2, 2026, primary election as school buildings are used as polling locations.

School districts throughout the state routinely cancel classes, move to remote instruction or schedule staff development days on Election Day to accommodate voters and election workers. Officials say the adjustments help maintain campus security and reduce disruptions caused by increased public access to school buildings.

Several districts have already announced closures or early dismissals for June 2, while others are expected to finalize plans in the coming weeks.

New Jersey voters will cast ballots in primary races for local, county, state and federal offices ahead of the November general election. Many polling places are located inside public schools because of their accessibility and capacity to handle large numbers of voters.

District officials are encouraging parents and students to monitor school communications for specific schedule updates related to the election.
