IOWA — Students in one central Iowa school district are set to begin summer break this week after district officials confirmed the school year will still end on May 28.
Southeast Polk Community School District announced that Thursday, May 28, 2026, will remain the final day of school for students despite winter weather cancellations earlier in the year.
The district said its school board voted April 23 to waive missed instructional hours because the district still exceeded Iowa’s state-required instructional hour minimum.
The district’s announcement specifically states that “May 28, 2026, remain[s] the last day of school for students.”
Students in the district will now begin summer break following classes Thursday.
