
MISSISSIPPI — Authorities responded to two black bear sightings in the Utica area Monday afternoon, according to the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office.
Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said both the sheriff’s office and the Utica Police Department responded to the sightings.
Officials said they are aware of an increase in black bear sightings in parts of Hinds County and are urging residents to stay alert.
Residents are encouraged to secure food sources around their homes, keep pets nearby and avoid approaching or attempting to feed wildlife.
Authorities also asked residents to report any black bear sightings to local law enforcement agencies to help keep both the community and the animals safe.
