INDIANA — Most schools across Indiana will be closed Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day, the federal holiday honoring U.S. military service members who died while serving the nation.
School districts throughout Indiana traditionally close campuses for the holiday each year. Many districts are also nearing the end of the school year or beginning summer break by late May. Districts still in session are expected to suspend classes for the day.
Memorial Day is observed annually on the last Monday of May and is recognized nationwide as a federal holiday. In addition to school closures, many government offices, banks and businesses are expected to close or operate on limited schedules.
Communities across Indiana are expected to hold Memorial Day ceremonies, parades and other remembrance events throughout the holiday weekend to honor fallen service members. Increased travel is also anticipated as residents take advantage of the three-day weekend.
Schools that remain in session are expected to resume classes Tuesday, May 26, following the Memorial Day holiday.
