GEORGIA — Most schools across Georgia will be closed Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day, the federal holiday honoring U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the armed forces.
Public school districts throughout Georgia traditionally cancel classes for the holiday each year. Many districts are also nearing the end of the school year, with some students already beginning summer break by late May. Districts that remain in session are expected to suspend classes for the day.
Memorial Day is observed annually on the last Monday in May and is recognized nationwide as a federal holiday. Along with school closures, many government offices, banks and businesses are also expected to close or operate on reduced schedules.
Communities across Georgia are expected to host Memorial Day ceremonies, parades and other remembrance events throughout the holiday weekend honoring fallen service members. Increased travel is also anticipated statewide as residents take advantage of the long weekend.
Classes are expected to resume Tuesday, May 26, for Georgia school districts that remain in session following the holiday.
