FLORIDA — Most schools across Florida will be closed Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day, the federal holiday dedicated to honoring U.S. military service members who died while serving the nation.
School districts throughout Florida traditionally close campuses for the holiday each year. Many districts are also approaching the end of the school year, with some students already beginning summer break by late May.
Memorial Day is observed annually on the last Monday of May and is recognized nationwide as a federal holiday. In addition to school closures, many government offices, banks and businesses are expected to close or operate on modified schedules for the day.
Cities and towns across Florida are expected to hold Memorial Day ceremonies, parades and remembrance events throughout the holiday weekend to honor fallen service members. Increased traffic and travel are also anticipated as residents take advantage of the long weekend.
Schools that remain in session are expected to resume classes Tuesday, May 26, following the Memorial Day holiday.
