More than 20,000 Ohio customers without power as extreme heat continues

OHIO — Thousands of residents across Northeast Ohio are without electricity Tuesday evening as dangerously hot weather continues to grip the region.

As of 8 p.m., FirstEnergy reported that more than 20,000 customers across Ohio were experiencing power outages. The largest impacts were reported in Cuyahoga County, where more than 8,000 customers were without power, and Trumbull County, where more than 7,300 customers were affected.

Additional outages were reported in Ashtabula, Geauga, Lorain and Portage counties, impacting hundreds of customers.

According to FirstEnergy, power is expected to be restored to most affected customers by midnight. Cleveland Public Power is also reporting outages Tuesday evening.

The outages come as an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for all of Northeast Ohio through 8 p.m. Thursday. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit time outdoors during the hottest parts of the day and use caution as heat index values remain dangerously high.
