Measurable snowfall possible in Ohio this weekend

OHIO — A late-season weather system could bring a chance of measurable snowfall to parts of Ohio this weekend into early next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecast data shows precipitation moving into the region between Saturday afternoon and early Tuesday morning, with some areas cold enough at times to support light snow. However, most of Ohio is expected to see little to no accumulation due to marginal temperatures and warm ground conditions.

Northern and northeastern Ohio appear to have the best chance of seeing measurable snowfall. Areas near Cleveland, Mansfield, and into parts of the Snowbelt could see light accumulations, generally around a dusting to a half-inch. In isolated higher terrain or during periods of heavier precipitation, localized totals could approach 1 inch.

Central Ohio, including Columbus and surrounding communities, may see a mix of rain and snow at times, but accumulation is expected to be minimal or nonexistent. Southern Ohio is expected to remain too warm for snow, with precipitation falling primarily as rain.

A secondary outlook from the National Weather Service indicates there is about a 10% chance of higher snowfall totals in parts of northern Ohio. In that scenario, isolated locations could exceed 1 inch, particularly in areas more favorable for colder temperatures.

Forecasters emphasize that any snowfall will likely be brief and mainly limited to grassy or elevated surfaces, with roadways expected to remain largely unaffected. Temperatures typical of mid-April should lead to quick melting of any accumulation.

While measurable snow is possible in parts of Ohio, the system is not expected to produce significant impacts.
