
VIRGINIA — A Maryland man is facing multiple charges after police say he shoplifted from a store, assaulted an officer, and attempted to bring drugs into a jail, according to the Arlington County Police Department.
Authorities identified the suspect as 24-year-old Victor Lopez Pastilla of Fort Washington, Maryland.
Police said the incident began Monday night when Pastilla entered a business in the 1200 block of South Hayes Street, concealed merchandise, and left the store without paying.
Officers located Pastilla nearby and attempted to take him into custody. During the arrest, police said he resisted and allegedly struck an officer, who sustained minor injuries.
Additional officers responded to assist, and investigators said Pastilla also provided false identification during the encounter.
Police reported that suspected narcotics and burglary tools were recovered at the scene. Authorities said additional narcotics were discovered while Pastilla was being booked into the Arlington County jail.
Pastilla is charged with assault on a police officer, obstruction of justice, possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, identity theft, possession of burglarious tools, delivery of drugs to prisoners, and shoplifting.
He is currently being held without bond.
