Kentucky State University announces closure due to threat

KENTUCKY — Officials at Kentucky State University closed the university’s main campus Wednesday following what administrators described as a safety threat.

According to a university safety alert, the campus was ordered to close immediately, and students, employees and visitors were instructed to leave the area calmly unless otherwise directed by law enforcement or university officials.

The alert was issued out of an abundance of caution after messages were reportedly sent to Frankfort Police.

University officials said all employees would work remotely for the remainder of the day. Students staying in summer housing were being relocated to a secure off-campus location.

Officials also announced Benson Farm was closed while officers conducted a sweep of the campus.

Authorities said no one should return to the main campus until further notice.
