ALABAMA — A state inmate serving a life sentence for robbery died Wednesday evening at William Donaldson Correctional Facility, according to officials.

Larry Thomas, 67, was found unresponsive at about 6:25 p.m. in the prison infirmary at the Jefferson County facility, authorities said. He was pronounced dead five minutes later.

Thomas was serving a life sentence following a 2000 robbery conviction out of Calhoun County.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Thomas was being treated for a terminal illness at the time of his death.

Officials said an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause and manner of death, but there were no signs of foul play.
