LOUISIANA — Louisiana State Police are investigating the death of an inmate who suffered a medical emergency while in custody at the Morgan City Police Department early Saturday morning.
According to the Morgan City Police Department, officers responded when the inmate experienced a medical emergency inside the facility. Officers and emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving measures in an effort to revive the individual.
Despite those efforts, the inmate was later pronounced dead by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
Police officials said no foul play is suspected at this time. However, the department has requested that Louisiana State Police conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
The identity of the deceased inmate has not been made public pending further investigation.
