INDIANA — The Indiana State Police is investigating the death of an inmate at the Miami Correctional Facility, marking the third reported death at the prison this month.
According to investigators, 82-year-old Billy A. Wilson died Friday, April 17. The agency’s Criminal Investigations Division at the Peru Post has opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Officials have not released details about how Wilson died. Authorities said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause.
Wilson had been serving a 48-year sentence after being convicted in 2022 of shooting and killing his neighbor in Wayne County in 2020 during a dispute over a property line, according to the Associated Press.
His death is the third reported at the facility in April. Earlier this month, authorities said 50-year-old Shawn L. Booker of Fort Wayne and 55-year-old Tuan Van Bui, an ICE detainee from Vietnam, also died while in custody.
Officials have not released details about what led to those deaths. The investigation remains ongoing.
