High school student dead following vehicle crash in Texas

TEXAS — An 18-year-old Tom Bean High School student was killed in a traffic crash Wednesday afternoon in Grayson County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Troopers said the crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. on State Highway 11 near McGraw Lane, north of Luella.

Investigators identified the victim as Makynna Eden Tumlinson, 18. According to DPS, Tumlinson was driving a small sedan when she failed to control her speed and rear-ended a truck traveling on the highway.

Tumlinson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

Following the crash, Tom Bean High School announced the cancellation of all Thursday activities.

School officials said counselors, administrators and local pastors would be available on campus to provide support for students affected by the loss.

The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the crash.
