GEORGIA — Twin Oaks Elementary School was placed on lockdown Thursday after a man fled from police on school property, according to the Leesburg Police Department.

Police said the incident occurred around noon on April 16. Authorities were alerted after the man’s sister contacted the Albany Police Department, reporting that he was heading to the school. Officers were then dispatched to the campus.

According to officials, the man arrived at the school attempting to contact his girlfriend, who reportedly works in the cafeteria. After speaking with school administration in the front office, he was stopped by officers when he tried to leave the building.

Police said the man then fled from officers, got into his vehicle and led authorities on a brief pursuit. His vehicle was stopped less than 100 feet from the school.

No weapons were found in the vehicle, and no students or staff were injured during the incident, police said.

Authorities reported that the man was making threatening remarks to himself. He was taken for a mental evaluation and charged with obstruction.

The incident remains under investigation.
