INDIANA — Four people were hospitalized, including an 80-year-old woman who was airlifted, following a crash Tuesday morning east of LaGrange, according to the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash happened just before 8:15 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 20 and State Road 3 and involved a minivan and an SUV.
Investigators determined the 80-year-old woman driving the minivan on State Road 3 failed to yield to traffic on U.S. 20 and collided with the SUV.
The driver of the minivan, identified as Clara Payne, 80, of Colon, Michigan, became trapped inside the vehicle. After being freed by first responders, she was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital with chest pain and other injuries.
Three passengers in the minivan — including a 1-year-old child and two adult women — were able to exit the vehicle on their own. Authorities said they were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 43-year-old from Ohio, was not injured.
Officials noted that traffic on State Road 3 is controlled by a stop sign at the intersection, while U.S. 20 traffic has the right of way. No additional details were immediately released.
