OHIO — A man was shot by deputies during a domestic violence call Saturday in Ashtabula County, according to authorities.
The incident occurred on Footville-Richmond Road after a woman called 911 reporting that a 42-year-old man had returned home intoxicated and was in possession of a rifle. The woman and her two young children were inside the home with the doors locked at the time.
Officials said the man had driven onto the property and backed his vehicle into a ditch across the roadway. He was reportedly armed with multiple firearms when deputies arrived.
Two deputies encountered the man in the backyard, where authorities say he raised a rifle. Deputies repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon, but he refused.
One deputy then fired a single shot, striking the man and knocking him to the ground. The rifle remained in his possession, according to the sheriff’s office.
While deputies rendered first aid, the man allegedly told them, “Kill me… Kill me!”
He was transported to UPMC Hamot Medical Center for treatment. His condition has not been released.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called in to investigate the deputy-involved shooting.
The case remains under investigation.
