GEORGIA — Two credit card skimmers were recently discovered at two Dollar General stores in Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The affected stores are located in Waverly Hall and Pine Mountain Valley. Deputies said it is unclear how long the skimming devices were attached to the card readers.
Authorities are urging anyone who used a debit or credit card at either location to closely monitor their bank accounts and credit card statements for unauthorized or suspicious transactions.
The sheriff’s office advises customers who notice fraudulent activity to immediately contact their bank or credit card company, report the charges and cancel or freeze affected cards if necessary. Deputies also recommend continuing to monitor accounts for any additional suspicious activity.
Investigators noted that card skimmers are commonly placed on gas pumps, ATMs and store payment terminals. Residents are encouraged to inspect card readers before using them and to use tap-to-pay options whenever possible to reduce the risk of fraud.
The investigation remains ongoing.
