GEORGIA — One construction worker was killed and another was hospitalized after both were struck by a vehicle while working along Interstate 85 in College Park on Thursday afternoon, according to police.
Authorities said the two workers were performing work on the side of the interstate when they were hit by a car shortly after 3 p.m. near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Police confirmed that one worker died as a result of the crash. The second worker was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. The extent of that worker’s injuries has not been released.
The Georgia Department of Transportation said the workers were contractors working for the agency.
Investigators said the driver involved initially left the scene but later returned and was detained for questioning. No charges have been announced.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Traffic was impacted for several hours following the incident, but all lanes of I-85 had reopened by about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
