Child dead after being struck by DUI suspect in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — A 62-year-old man is in custody after a one-year-old boy was struck and killed in a crash Monday evening in Anderson County, authorities said.

According to the Anderson Police Department, the crash was reported around 8:15 p.m. on the 3200 block of South Murray Avenue. Officers responding to the scene learned the victim was a juvenile.

The child was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to the Anderson County Coroner’s Office.

Police have identified the suspect as David Ronald Metz, of Anderson. He has been charged with felony DUI involving death.

The identity of the child has not been released.

The crash remains under investigation by the Anderson Police Department.
