
TEXAS — Authorities are investigating after a body was discovered Wednesday afternoon in the Brazos River near Nugent.
According to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call just before 5 p.m. reporting a possible deceased person near FM 600 and County Road 303. Officials said the body was found by a local resident who was fishing in the area.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said the victim is believed to be a male from Abilene, estimated to be in his late teens to early 20s. His identity has not yet been released.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Texas Rangers, and the Abilene Police Department.
Authorities said the body has been sent for an autopsy, and results are pending. Investigators have not determined how long the body may have been in the water or what led to the death.
No additional details were immediately available as the investigation remains ongoing.
