MISSISSIPPI — Authorities have confirmed the death of a missing teenager in central Mississippi.
Smith County Sheriff Joel Houston announced Friday afternoon that 14-year-old Melvin Harter was found dead. The sheriff did not release additional details about the circumstances surrounding the teen’s death.
An alert was issued Friday morning after Harter was reported missing.
He was last seen alive around noon Thursday in the 100 block of County Road 47 in Smith County, located southeast of Jackson.
The investigation into Harter’s death is ongoing.
