VIRGINIA — Much of Virginia is under a marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe thunderstorms on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

The outlook shows nearly the entire Commonwealth included in the marginal risk area, meaning isolated severe thunderstorms are possible. Forecasters say the strongest storms could produce damaging wind gusts, hail and frequent lightning.

SPC Day 1 Outlook

While the greatest threat for widespread severe weather is expected well north of Virginia across parts of the northern Plains, and another slight risk is focused along portions of the North Carolina coast, conditions across Virginia remain favorable for a few stronger storms during the afternoon and evening.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts throughout the day and be prepared to seek shelter if severe thunderstorm warnings are issued for their area.
