Strong storms could bring damaging winds to parts of Alabama on Wednesday

ALABAMA — Parts of Alabama could see isolated severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts on Wednesday, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

Forecasters say a cluster of thunderstorms moving across the region could strengthen as it tracks through southern Mississippi and into southern Alabama later Wednesday morning and afternoon.

SPC Day 1 Outlook

While the overall severe weather threat is expected to remain isolated, the strongest storms may produce powerful, water-loaded wind gusts. Forecast models indicate the atmosphere will have limited wind shear, but strong thunderstorm updrafts could still generate locally damaging winds.

The Storm Prediction Center said the greatest severe weather threat nationwide is expected to remain across the central High Plains, but portions of the Deep South, including southern Alabama, could still experience isolated severe storms.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions throughout the day.
