OHIO — A Newark man died Tuesday evening following a crash in a construction zone on state Route 16 in Licking County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:05 p.m. when 48-year-old Robert Lentz, of Newark, was traveling eastbound on state Route 16 in a 2008 Volkswagen Passat.

Investigators said Lentz drove off the left side of the roadway and struck a construction barrel, an embankment and a traffic attenuator. The vehicle then overturned, and Lentz was ejected from the car.

Lentz was transported to Licking Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said there were no construction workers in the work zone at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
