TEXAS — Four people, including a child and a Fort Worth police officer, were injured after a gunman opened fire near a Fort Worth park Saturday night, authorities said.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded around 9:10 p.m. to the 5200 block of East Rosedale Street following reports of a shooting. A large gathering had been taking place earlier in the day at nearby Stop Six Park.
Investigators said a suspect dressed in black emerged from an area between a strip center and an apartment complex east of the park and began firing into a crowd before fleeing back toward the apartment complex.
An adult woman was shot in the head and was transported to a hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Police said a patrol officer sitting inside a marked cruiser was also injured when a bullet struck the vehicle’s windshield. Shrapnel from the impact struck the officer in the neck. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
A child was grazed in the head by a bullet, while another woman was shot in the hip. Both are expected to survive. The woman drove herself to a hospital, and the child was transported by paramedics.
The suspect remains at large.
Fort Worth police said the department’s Major Case Unit is investigating the shooting. Anyone with information or video from the incident is asked to contact the Fort Worth Police Department at 817-392-4222 or Tarrant County Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.
