FLORIDA — A man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy hospitalized Friday evening in Fort Lauderdale.

According to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, 40-year-old Sean Alexis was taken into custody with assistance from the Plantation Police Department and booked into the Broward County Main Jail.

Authorities said Alexis faces multiple charges, including hit-and-run involving serious bodily injury, hit-and-run involving property damage and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

The crash occurred around 6:15 p.m. Friday near West Broward Boulevard and Northwest 11th Avenue. Investigators said a vehicle struck a marked Broward Sheriff’s Office patrol unit before fleeing the scene.

Police said witnesses reported that Alexis ran a red light before the collision.

Video from the scene showed significant damage to the deputy’s patrol vehicle, including a crushed driver’s side and deployed airbags.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was transported to a hospital with injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening. It was not immediately known whether the deputy remained hospitalized as of Saturday.
