OHIO — A Canton man died following a crash involving a semi late Tuesday night in Tuscarawas County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers with the New Philadelphia post said the crash happened around 11:42 p.m. at the intersection of state Route 93 and U.S. 250.

Investigators said Jeffrey A. Knerr, 53, of Canton, was driving a 2008 Nissan Rogue southbound on Route 93 when the SUV failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a 2021 Peterbilt tanker truck traveling northwest on U.S. 250.

Knerr was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Knerr was not wearing a seat belt and impairment is believed to have been a factor in the crash.

The driver of the semi, a 39-year-old woman from Newcomerstown, was not injured. Troopers said she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Beach City Fire Department, Wayne Township Fire Department, Strasburg Fire Department and the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
