MARYLAND — A 23-year-old man was killed in a crash early Memorial Day morning in Bowie, according to Maryland State Police.
Troopers said the two-vehicle crash happened shortly after midnight on U.S. Route 301 near Mill Branch Road in Prince George’s County.
A preliminary investigation found that a BMW traveling on Route 301 left the roadway for unknown reasons and crashed into a tree. Police said the impact caused the tree to fall into the roadway, where it was then struck by a Mercedes SUV.
The driver of the BMW, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released his identity.
Police said the driver of the Mercedes was not injured.
All lanes of Route 301 were closed for more than four hours while first responders worked at the scene and investigators processed the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
