SOUTH CAROLINA — Authorities in coastal South Carolina are investigating after a crowd rush near a stage in Atlantic Beach left 19 people injured early Sunday morning.
According to Horry County Fire Rescue, crews responded around 1 a.m. to a stage area near South Ocean Boulevard following reports of what officials described as a “stampede incident.”
Emergency crews and police found 19 people injured at the scene. Officials said none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. Three people were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while others may have sought medical care on their own.
Officials classified the situation as a “mass casualty incident” because of the number of people hurt.
Authorities have not released details about what caused the crowd rush, and the investigation remains ongoing.
