FLORIDA — A man tied to what authorities described as a “major Jackson County drug investigation” has been arrested in South Georgia after nearly two years on the run, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said Michael Dontaxious James was taken into custody Thursday at a home in Albany, Georgia.
According to the sheriff’s office, James is charged with the sale of fentanyl pressed pills and had been federally indicted on multiple drug and firearm charges.
Authorities said James had avoided arrest since a 2024 warrant roundup connected to the investigation, during which several other suspects were taken into custody.
The sheriff’s office said James was arrested without incident by the U.S. Marshals East Regional Fugitive Task Force, the Albany Police Department and the Albany-Dougherty Special Investigations Unit.
Officials did not release additional details about how investigators located James.
The case remains under investigation.
