NORTH CAROLINA — A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night in a crash near the Taylorsville area, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash happened around 8:30 p.m. along Rink Dam Road near Fess Little Road, just north of Lake Hickory. Investigators said a 2019 Harley-Davidson motorcycle went off the side of the road and struck a mailbox.
The driver, identified as 58-year-old Dean Patrick Lewis of Catawba, was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said no other injuries were reported.
The crash investigation led to the closure of Rink Dam Road for about two hours Tuesday night.
Troopers said speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Investigators have not said whether impairment may have played a role.
