MISSISSIPPI — A phone-in threat prompted a shelter-in-place Monday afternoon at Ocean Springs High School as law enforcement officers searched the campus.
According to local authorities, the threat was reported at the school earlier in the day. Officials with the Ocean Springs Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department responded and began conducting a sweep of the campus.
As of 2:40 p.m., officers had completed a search of the school’s interior and were continuing to search the outside areas of the campus.
School officials said students would not be allowed to leave campus or be checked out by parents until the shelter-in-place order was lifted.
Authorities also asked parents and guardians not to come to the school while law enforcement secured the scene.
Officials said parents would be notified once the shelter-in-place was lifted.
