Thousands without power in Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI — More than 4,000 homes and businesses across Mississippi are without electricity Monday morning, according to statewide outage tracking data.

PowerOutage.us reported 4,007 customers without power statewide out of nearly 1.5 million tracked customers.

Hinds County reported the highest number of outages in the state Monday morning with 2,037 customers affected. Tippah County followed with 1,343 outages, while Lafayette County reported 181 customers without electricity. Benton County had 160 outages, and Madison County reported 45.

Entergy reported the largest number of outages among utility providers with 2,141 customers without power. Tippah EPA listed 1,503 outages, while North East Mississippi EPA reported 206 customers without electricity.

According to the outage tracking website, Mississippi currently ranks eighth in the nation for the total number of outages and seventh nationwide for the percentage of customers affected.

Tippah EPA reported one of the highest outage percentages in the state, with nearly 12% of tracked customers without electricity. Benton County also reported more than 13% of tracked customers affected Monday morning.

Residents are encouraged to report outages to their utility providers and avoid downed power lines.
