
ILLINOIS — One person was killed and seven others were injured in a four-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Interstate 290 in Chicago, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-290 near Ashland Avenue.
Police said traffic was slowing when one vehicle struck the rear of another vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving four cars.
Eight people were taken to local hospitals with injuries. One of the occupants later died at a hospital, authorities said.
The person who died has not been identified.
Illinois State Police closed the right lane and several ramps while troopers investigated the crash. The closures remained in place as of about 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing.
