Two people dead following vehicle crash in Virginia

VIRGINIA — Two adults were killed and two children were injured in a crash early Sunday morning in the Oakton area of Fairfax County, according to police.

Fairfax County police said officers responded just before 2 a.m. to a crash on Route 123 over Interstate 66.

Authorities said a woman who was driving the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A man who was a passenger was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died.

Two juvenile passengers were also taken to the hospital with injuries. Police said one of the children is in critical condition.

Northbound and southbound Route 123 were shut down while Fairfax County police Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives investigated the crash.

Police have not released the identities of those involved, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
