OHIO — A 911 call led Columbus police to the discovery of a man’s body wrapped in a rug and buried beneath a pile of mulch outside a northeast Columbus home, according to investigators.
Police said officers found the body of 39-year-old Xavier Reynolds Monday night outside a home on Brocton Court. Authorities said Reynolds died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Investigators charged 30-year-old Markus Yeanay with murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the case.
According to police, Yeanay called 911 earlier that same day and told dispatchers that his father was trying to frame him for killing someone. During the call, Yeanay reportedly told dispatchers he was scared and denied involvement.
Police said investigators later found a large amount of blood inside the home. Authorities also recovered clothing and possible weapons near a trash can outside the residence.
In the 911 call, Yeanay told dispatchers that his father had asked him to get mulch because he planned to plant flowers outside the home. Yeanay said he became suspicious after the mulch was piled behind the house.
Yeanay remains in the Franklin County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court next week.
