Two people arrested after police discover multiple stolen firearms during traffic stop in Texas

TEXAS — Two people were arrested after officers with the recovered multiple firearms during a traffic stop earlier this week in Wichita Falls.

Police said the stop happened Tuesday, May 12, in the 2500 block of Burkburnett Road after officers observed a traffic violation.

During the investigation, officers reported smelling marijuana coming from the vehicle and detained the occupants while conducting a search.

According to police, officers recovered two handguns from the vehicle, including a loaded Glock .40-caliber handgun that had previously been reported stolen. Authorities also said an extended magazine was found inside the vehicle.

Jarod Smith and Josiah Barnes were arrested and charged with theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Both were transported to the Wichita County Law Enforcement Center without incident, police said.
