Thousands without power in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA — More than 7,300 customers across North Carolina are without power Thursday morning, according to data from PowerOutage.us.

As of the latest update, 7,387 customers statewide are experiencing outages out of nearly 5.9 million tracked customers, accounting for about 0.13% of customers across the state.

Chatham County is reporting the largest number of outages with 6,597 customers without electricity. The county is also the hardest hit statewide by percentage, with 13.57% of tracked customers affected.

Duke Energy is reporting the highest number of outages among utilities in the state, with 7,276 customers without service. The company tracks more than 3.8 million customers in North Carolina.

Other counties reporting outages Thursday morning include Caldwell County with 123 outages, Forsyth County with 66, Macon County with 57 and Lenoir County with 45.

North Carolina currently ranks fifth in the nation for the total number of outages and seventh nationwide for the percentage of customers affected, according to the outage tracking site.
