
NORTH CAROLINA — A Deep Run man wanted on outstanding warrants was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly leading Kinston police on a chase with a 5-year-old child inside the vehicle.
According to the Kinston Police Department, officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 8 p.m. Tuesday after it was seen running a stop sign near Adkin Street and Tower Hill Road.
Police said the driver fled from officers, leading them on a pursuit that ended near Bonnie Lane and Indigo Lane when the driver stopped the vehicle and ran away on foot.
After a brief chase, officers arrested 22-year-old Monterio Davis Jr.
During the investigation, police discovered a 5-year-old child inside the vehicle. Authorities said the child was released to a responsible adult.
Davis was charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, resisting a public officer, child abuse, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and several traffic violations.
Police said Davis was also wanted by the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction for interfering with an electronic monitoring device. He additionally had another unrelated outstanding warrant.
Davis remains jailed at the Lenoir County Jail.
