ILLINOIS — A review of available 2025-26 Illinois public school calendars shows a number of districts plan to finish classes during May 2026, although many others continue into early June because of state attendance requirements and built-in emergency days.
Among the districts ending particularly early is Waukegan Community Unit School District 60, which lists May 21, 2026 as the final student attendance day for the second semester.
Yorkville Community Unit School District 115 also scheduled a tentative last day of school on May 22, 2026, with emergency make-up days extending into early June if needed.
In the Rockford area, Rockford Public Schools District 205 lists May 21, 2026 as the final day for grades early childhood through 11, while seniors finish May 8.
The review also found Edwardsville Community Unit School District 7 scheduled to end student attendance on May 27, 2026.
Urbana School District 116 plans for May 29, 2026 to serve as the official last day of school, although the district calendar notes the date could shift to June if winter weather days are used.
Other Illinois districts with May endings include School District U-46, which lists May 22, 2026 as the last day of school on its calendar document.
Several major Illinois districts, however, extend beyond May. Chicago Public Schools currently lists June 4, 2026 as the final day of school.
North Shore School District 112, Park Ridge-Niles School District 64 and Community Consolidated School District 15 also currently show school years extending into June 2026.
Illinois school calendars can change because of emergency weather closures or additional attendance days. This review was based on publicly available district calendars and announcements and should not be considered a complete list of every Illinois school district.
