VIRGINIA — A review of available 2025-26 Virginia public school calendars shows several districts are scheduled to complete classes during May 2026, although many of the state’s larger divisions continue into June.
Among the earliest May ending dates found was May 21, 2026, listed by Patrick County Public Schools as the last day for students. The district calendar notes teacher workdays follow on May 21 and May 22.
In the Richmond area, Henrico County Public Schools scheduled May 29, 2026 as the last day of school for students, with the division noting it will be a student half-day and flexible clerical day for staff.
Hanover County Public Schools also plans to end classes on May 29, 2026, according to its approved 2025-26 calendar. Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for May 30.
Several Virginia districts, however, continue well into June. Fairfax County Public Schools, the state’s largest school division, lists June 17, 2026 as the final day of school.
Prince William County Public Schools is scheduled to conclude the school year on June 12, 2026.
In Central Virginia, Lynchburg City Schools lists June 3, 2026 as the final student day of the school year.
Meanwhile, Suffolk Public Schools currently plans for the last day of school on June 5, 2026.
Other districts reviewed, including Arlington Public Schools, also extend classes into June, with Arlington’s calendar showing June 18, 2026 as the final student day.
Virginia school calendars may change because of weather-related closures or future school board revisions. This review was based on publicly available 2025-26 calendars and district announcements and should not be considered a complete list of every Virginia school division.
