SOUTH CAROLINA — Two Sumter residents who co-own a local event venue are facing multiple charges following an investigation by the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) into illegal alcohol sales.
Authorities said Vernice Shawann Sharper, 38, and Cedric Antonio Williams, 48, were arrested on May 2, 2026. The pair operate Zaddy’s Event Center, located at 901 Manning Avenue in Sumter.
According to investigators, the two allegedly sold alcoholic beverages at the venue without the required permits or licenses issued by the South Carolina Department of Revenue. Arrest warrants state that a confidential informant, equipped with audio and video recording devices, purchased alcohol at the business during the investigation.
Sharper and Williams have each been charged with failure to secure a required beer or wine permit, unlawful sale and manufacture of alcoholic liquors (first offense), and unlawful storage or possession of alcoholic liquors in a place of business (first offense).
Both individuals were booked into the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center. The case remains under investigation.
