Police searching for suspect following attempted robbery in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — Police in North Charleston are searching for a suspect following a violent attempted robbery early Tuesday morning along Rivers Avenue near Interstate 526.

According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers were dispatched around 6:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a fight in the area. A second caller reported seeing a man riding a bicycle near the interstate who appeared to be covered in blood.

When officers arrived, they located the victim traveling eastbound on a bicycle with significant blood on his face and clothing. The victim told police he had been near a Circle K convenience store when an unknown individual attempted to steal his bicycle.

Authorities said a struggle ensued, during which the suspect struck the victim multiple times with an unknown object. The victim reported that the attack happened quickly and he was unable to identify the object used. The suspect also took the victim’s cellphone, according to police.

The suspect is described as a man between 45 and 60 years old wearing a dark-colored hoodie.

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
