SOUTH CAROLINA — Authorities are investigating after a fiber-optic cable was intentionally cut, causing service outages in parts of the county over the weekend.

According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to 8255 Asheville Highway in response to a reported act of vandalism. When they arrived, representatives from Spectrum told deputies that one of their cable lines had been cut, disrupting service to the surrounding area.

Investigators believe the incident may have been an attempted theft. However, officials noted that the line that was cut did not contain valuable materials like copper, and no wire was ultimately taken.

No charges have been filed at this time.
