OHIO — A Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department corrections officer is facing multiple felony charges after being accused of smuggling drugs into a Lorain County detention facility last year.

Cheyanne McClutchen, 26, of Cleveland, was arrested Wednesday by members of the sheriff’s department, according to county spokeswoman Jennifer Ciaccia.

Court records show a Lorain County grand jury indicted McClutchen in March on charges of illegally conveying drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility and aggravated possession of drugs. The indictment states the alleged incident occurred on or around Nov. 20.

Following her arrest, McClutchen was taken to the Lorain County Jail. Authorities said she was expected to be released after posting $1,000 of a $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to be arraigned April 30 in Lorain County Court of Common Pleas.

McClutchen has been placed on unpaid administrative leave while the case proceeds, Ciaccia said.

Officials initially reported that the Ohio State Highway Patrol was handling the investigation, but the agency later indicated the Drug Enforcement Administration is leading the case.
